Obituary

LOWNEY, Joan (Keating) Of Needham, MA, passed away Tuesday afternoon, April 3, 2018, at North Hill in Needham, shortly after receiving a cancer diagnosis. She was the beloved wife of the late Paul W. Lowney. Joan was born in Boston on January 10, 1923, the daughter of Edward C. Keating and Helen L. Gallivan. She is survived by her son Paul Geoffrey Lowney, two daughters Mary Ann Lowney-Wolf and Faith Lowney Bade, her son-in-law W. Christopher Bade, and six grandchildren Sam Lowney, Rose and Joe Locatell, and Ben, Elaina, and Kate Bade. Joan was the sister of the late Paul E. Keating and Richard A. Keating. 

She attended Sacred Heart School in Newton, MA, and graduated from Simmons College in 1944. Joan was a parishioner and choir member of St. Bartholomew's Church in Needham for more than 50 years, a member of Woodland Golf Club for more than 40 years, a long time bridge and tennis player, and avid reader in various book clubs throughout her life. Joan was a devoted community member; she most recently volunteered delivering for Meals on Wheels.

Funeral from the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 1305 Highland Ave., NEEDHAM, Saturday, April 7 at 9am followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Bartholomew’s Church, Needham at 10am. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Visiting hours at the funeral home Friday, April 6 from 4-7pm. Interment in St. Joseph Cemetery. West Roxbury.
