Obituary



John E. Gerety, Jr. of Andover passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by those he loved, Friday, March 23, 2018, following a short illness. He was 69 years of age. John was the beloved husband of Janis E. (Ferguson) Gerety. Born in Winchester he was one of five sons of the late John E. and Emma (McDonough) Gerety.

Raised and educated in Woburn, John was a 1966 graduate of Woburn High School. He went on to further his education at Boston College where he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. John worked his entire career as an Administrator for many area nursing homes. He was very dedicated to his work and the wellbeing of the residents and the resident families that he cared for throughout his long career. When not at work, John enjoyed spending time with his family at his second home in Seabrook Beach, NH, creating many wonderful memories that will be treasured. He also loved traveling to Disney World and was always looking forward to the next trip to the Magic Kingdom. John will fondly be remembered for his love of animals, his compassion for others and his great sense of humor. He will be greatly missed.

In addition to his beloved wife Janis, John is survived by his children, John E. Gerety III, and Jocelyn E. Crow and her husband Michael of Salem, NH. He is also survived by one loving grandchild. He was the cherished brother of Robert Gerety and his wife Debbie, Joseph Gerety, Thomas Gerety and his wife Patricia, all of Woburn, and the late James Gerety. Brother-in-law of Paul Ferguson and his wife Mary of Reading, and the late James Ferguson. He is further survived by many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held from the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Family Funeral Home, 60 Pleasant St., WOBURN Wednesday, March 28th, at 9:45 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass celebrated in St. Robert Bellarmine Church, 198 Haggetts Pond Rd., Andover, at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours at the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Funeral Home will be held on Tuesday, from 4 to 8 p.m. Services will conclude with burial at Calvary Cemetery, Woburn.
