Obituary

Frederick Victor Shorten, age 88, of York, SC, formerly of Lake Wales, Florida and Andover MA, died March 21, 2018, after a short illness.

Born March 22, 1929, in Andover MA, he was the son of James and Elsie (Haines) Shorten. He is predeceased by his wife Carmelle (Brisson) Shorten, to whom he was married for 63 years. After serving in the US Navy, Frederick worked for Boston Gas for more than 30 years, retiring from the company before moving to Florida in the late eighties.

Frederick and his wife maintained a camp in Madison NH they returned to every summer for many years. A devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather, the Shorten children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren visited Madison often and the camp became a gathering place for friends and family.

In addition to a keen interest in science, Frederick enjoyed being involved in his retirement community and was eventually elected president by his peers. He was skilled in working with his hands and took pride in his workshop and many projects.
He will be sadly missed by his loving daughters, Susan Waldie and her husband Robert, Sandra Mayhugh and her husband, Lewis; and her son, Frederick and his wife, Kathleen. He leaves behind nine grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.

His Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Augustine Church, 43 Essex Street, Andover on Wednesday, March 28, 2018, at 10:30 AM. Relatives and friends are most welcome to attend. Calling hours will be held in the Burke-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 390 North Main Street, Andover on Tuesday, March 27, 2018, from 4 to 8 PM. Interment will be held in Spring Grove Cemetery in Andover.
