Alphonse J. Saffer, 87, of Peabody, died unexpectedly on Sunday, March 18, 2018. He was the husband of the late Jean M. (Ouellette) Saffer and devoted companion of Joan A. Girard of Peabody.
Born and raised in Salem, He was the son of the late Bagdasar and M. Christine (Boisvert) Saffer. From High School, Al joined the Marines and served in Korea. He returned to the area and first worked for Sylvania as a machinist and later for the United Shoe Machine Corp Corporation until his retirement in 1996. Al’s real passion was building motorized model ships that were exhibited throughout the area.
He is survived by his son, Alan D. Saffer, his granddaughter Ashley E. Saffer and his brother Donald Saffer as well as nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his daughter Maureen C. Marcotti, his brothers, Harry, Robert & Leon and his sister Rose Swindell.
