Obituary

Mr. Edward Murphy, beloved husband of the late Margaret Martingano Murphy, entered into rest on Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at Westwood Extended Care.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at Platt’s Belair Road Chapel with the Rev. Michael Ingram officiating. Burial will follow at Bellevue Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Murphy, a native of Brooklyn, N.Y., married Margaret Martingano on May 4, 1958. Their marriage lasted for 46 years until her death in 2004. He worked for Lilly-Tulip for over 30 years, moving several times with each new corporate owner, from Whitehouse, Ohio to Augusta, and then to Baltimore, MD. In 1988, he retired from what is now Sweetheart Cup, and he and Margaret moved back to Augusta. He loved golf, traveling, photography and woodworking. He also enjoyed spending the weekend going to yard sales with Margaret. The family will remember him as a calm and gentle soul, as well as the smartest man they ever knew. "Those we love don't go away, they walk beside us every day... unseen, unheard, but always near, still loved, still missed and very dear"

He is survived by his sons; Donald E. Murphy and Edward Murphy (Kerri), his daughter; Kim Thompson (Joe), and his grandchildren; Jessica Thompson, Cash Thompson, Travis Murphy, Brittney Murphy, Austin Flores, Gavin Flores, Courtney Croxton and Ethan Croxton.

If so desired, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org or to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening, March 23, 2018 from 6:00 until 7:00 PM.
