Obituary

Bohuslav Vodicka, age 88 of Brockton, passed away on March 7, 2018 at his daughter's home in Phoenix, AZ after a two year battle with cancer. He was the loving husband for 62 years of the late Blazena (Lorencova) Vodicka.

Bohuslav, son of the late Anna and Vaclav Vodicka, was born in Dedova, Czechoslovakia, where he was raised and educated as a civil engineer.

A resident of Brockton since 1971, Bohuslav and his late wife Blazena were long time members of the Ayer Gun and Sportsman Club, Standish Sportsman Association, and Somerset Sportsman Club. They were generous supporters of the New England Chapter of Masaryk Club, a Czech and Slovak Association of the greater Boston area, where Bohuslav served as president.

Bohuslav and his wife were members of Czechoslovak Society of Arts and Sciences, a nonprofit cultural organization dedicated to the pursuit of knowledge and the free dissemination of ideas internationally. He was also a member of the American Society of Civil Engineering where he often presented the latest developments in civil structural engineering and design. He was known as an expert in his field and was published in textbooks as well as various professional journals internationally.

After immigrating to the United States with his wife and three daughters in 1968, he worked for Sepp Firnkas Engineering Inc. on Newbury St. in Boston. He taught mathematics and engineering design at Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology in Boston and was a Chief Engineer for San-Vel Concrete/Lone Star Industries. After retirement, he worked as a consultant in the New England area and abroad, in places such as Czech Republic and St. Lucia.

Bohuslav enjoyed spending time with family, camping, fishing, hunting, gardening, dancing, music and extensive travelling.

He is survived by his two daughters, Anna Sogard and her husband Bruce of Phoenix, AZ and Bohuslava Silva and her late husband Stephen of Belcamp MD; six grandchildren, Michael, Anthony, Stephanie, Jonathan, Eric, Alex and seven great grandchildren Lillian, Gionni, Saydee, Fisher, Knix, Penny and Sage. Bohuslav was the father of the late Jirina Vodicka and the brother of the late Zofie Kopecka.

Visitation will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont St., (Rte 123) Brockton on Monday March 26, from 10:00am-12:00pm followed by a funeral service and burial at Melrose Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Bohuslav’s name to the MA Audubon Society, Development Dept., 208 South Great Road, Lincoln, MA 01773.
