Obituary


Kathryn T. (Healy) Cooke, 89, a longtime resident of Whitman, died peacefully on Tuesday, March 20th surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of 63 years to the late Joseph C.V. Cooke.

Born in South Boston, she was the daughter of the late Patrick and Margaret (Walsh) Healy.

Kay and Joe lived much of their earlier years of marriage in California where Joe served in the United States Air Force. After his retirement, the family returned to Massachusetts and settled in Whitman where they raised their family. Kay remained in that same family home for 50 years.

She worked at the Jordan Marsh store in Braintree in the credit department until her retirement in 1991.

She was for many years an active communicant of the Holy Ghost Parish where she served as a Lector at daily Masses, on the Ladies’ Sodality, and helping with many other ministries of the parish.

Her greatest joy was time spent surrounded by her large family.

Kay is survived by her son, Joseph Cooke, Jr. and Connie Hurwitz of Yarmouth Port, daughter Peg Donaher and her husband, Steve, of Plymouth, sons Paul Cooke and his wife, Kim, of Washington, Richard Cooke and his wife, Terrie, of New Mexico, Christopher Cooke and his wife, Lisa, of Hanson, Kenneth Cooke and his wife, Jennifer, of Centerville, daughter, Teresa Almond and her husband, Jamie, of Whitman, and her son, Barry Cooke and his wife, Stephanie, of Carver; her sisters, Peggy Cataloni and Claire King of Rockland. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren and her many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters, Mary Guerriero, Bridie Trefrey, and Noreen Spelios and her brother, Patrick Healy.

Her services will be held Monday March 26 at 10:15 AM from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) followed by a funeral Mass at 11:00 AM in the Holy Ghost Church, Whitman. Burial will follow at 2:15 PM in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. Visiting hours will be held Sunday March 25 from 1:00-5:00 PM.
