Obituary

WILBRAHAM ~ Evangeline R. (Goyette) Sirois Alto, age 103, a longtime resident of Wilbraham, was Called Safely Home on Saint Patrick Day, Saturday, March 17, 2018. She passed into Eternal Life at Wingate at Wilbraham surrounded by all the memories she loved and cherished. She was born at home in Springfield on May 5, 1914, a beloved daughter of the late Charles A. and Lina (Valiquette) Goyette. In 1917, she moved to Canada with her parents where they lived until returning to Springfield in 1925. She graduated from the former State Street Junior High School and then in 1932, graduated from the High School of Commerce. She was employed in the office at the former Colonial Envelope Company in Springfield where she met her husband to be, Roland Sirois. They were married on May 6, 1939 and were blessed with over 41 years of happiness together. In 1948, Evangeline went to work at the former Hall Galleries at Steiger’s Department Store in Springfield. In 1954, Evangeline and Roland built a home on Brainerd Road in Wilbraham where they lived for many years. She then worked at the former Shawinigan Resins in Indian Orchard. Her husband, Roland started a real estate and building business in 1956, where Evangeline became the office manager. She volunteered for many years at the former Wesson Memorial Hospital and belonged to several square dance clubs. Roland and Evangeline enjoyed traveling all over the United States and were avid bridge players. After Roland’s passing in 1981, Evangeline joined the Springfield Golden Agers where she appeared as a dancer in several of their shows. At the Golden Agers, she met her second husband, Henry D. Alto who passed in 1993. As her vision deteriorated, Evangeline moved to Keystone Commons in Ludlow in the Fall of 2012. On May 5, 2017 with family and friends, Evangeline celebrated her 103rd Birthday at Wingate at Wilbraham. Evangeline leaves her beloved son, Lee C. Sirois and his wife, Barbara, of Sun City Center, FL; her two cherished grandsons, Michael Sirois and his wife, Alicia and their two children, great-granddaughters, Marie and Juliana; and Kenneth Sirois and his wife, Diane and their two children, great-grandsons, Ryan and Kevin, all of Tolland, CT. Her family will receive friends on Thursday, March 22, 2018 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107. On Friday morning, March 23, 2018, her family and friends will meet directly at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Cecilia Church, 42 Main Street, Wilbraham, MA 01095 for her Mass of Christian Burial. Her burial will follow the Mass at Saint Michael Cemetery, 1601 State Street, Springfield, MA 01109. In lieu of flowers, her family has requested that memorial donations be made in her memory to the Sirois Scholarship Fund at American International College, 1000 State Street, Springfield, MA 01109.
