Obituary

Minnie Irene Morris Harper, 101, of Ocilla, Georgia, died Sunday, March 18, 2018, at Pruitt Health of Ocilla.

Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Wednesday, March 21, 2018, at The Ocilla Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Couey officiating. Hugh Roberts will give the eulogy. Interment will follow in the Brushy Creek Cemetery, in Irwin County, Georgia. The family will receive friends from 12:30 PM until 2 PM at the church before the services.

Mrs. Harper was born August 20, 1916, in Meriwether County, Georgia, to the late Robert M. & Lena Wilson Morris. She lived in the community most of her life. Mrs. Harper was a homemaker and worked for Modern Fibers. She enjoyed cooking and baking 20-layer Chocolate Cakes. Mrs. Harper also enjoyed fishing and working in her yard and will be remembered for her day lilies and St. Augustine grass. She cooked for the workers at Flintstone Industries and for the farm hands. She credits her long life to working hard, staying busy and being an early riser. She was known as Mama, Grandmother, Granny, Aunt Minnie, Miss Minnie and Mrs. Harper. Mrs. Harper was a very devoted Christian and faithful member of the Ocilla Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School, a member of the WMU and participated in every mission trip the church took up to the age of 87. She was also formerly an active member of Bethlehem Baptist Church.

She is survived by her son, Larry & Deena Harper of Ocilla; two daughters: Melba Harper Metts & Bobby of Enigma and Faye Harper Paulk & Jimmy of Ocilla; eight grandchildren: Terri Hendrix, Mark Metts, Jim Paulk, Phil Harper, Preston Harper, Marcus Harper, Anna Griffin and Blair Benson; nine great-grandchildren: Amanda Lowe, Austin Willis, Grant Metts, Colby Harper, Trevor Harper, Tyler Harper, Ella Paulk, Peri Griffin and Katelyn Benson and one great-great-grandson, Jax Lowe. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
