Obituary

Joan E. Bennie, 88, of Moosic, died Thursday at Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore.

Born in Moosic on Nov. 13, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Agnes Coleman Bennie. She was a graduate of Moosic High School and Temple University.

She began her career as an educator and had experienced a variety of positions during her illustrious career concluding as the executive vice president at Seamans Bank for Savings, New York City.

She was a member of Queen of the Apostles Parish (formerly St. Mary's), Avoca, the Altar & Rosary Society, Century Club, Scranton, and numerous business associations.

Joan returned to Moosic 28 years ago for retirement.

She is survived by her sister, Mildred Cesare and husband, Carl; two brothers, William and his wife, Joann; and James and his wife, Genevieve, all of Moosic: and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death her by sisters, Ann and Mary Bennie, Moosic; Agnes Loftus, Moosic; Margaret Johnson, Dunellen, N.J.; and brothers, Robert F. and Thomas J. Bennie, both of Moosic.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial at Queen of the Apostles Church, Avoca, to be celebrated by the Rev. Philip J. Sladicka. Interment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, Avoca.

Friends may call Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of the Mass.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Queen of the Apostles Church, 715 Hawthorne St., Avoca, PA 18641.
