Obituary

Walter E. Darby, 80, of Londonderry, NH, formerly of Framingham, MA, passed away March 11, 2018, after a period of declining health. Walter was born in Waltham, MA on October 30, 1937 and was the son of the late Walter and Ruth (Coffin) Darby. He was raised and educated in Waltham. He relocated to Framingham in 1966 where he resided until his retirement when he and his wife Shirley moved to Litchfield, NH.

Walter was a machinist over the course of his working life and spent many of those years with Raytheon Corp. from which he retired in 2003. He was a longtime member of Sudbury United Methodist Church, where he was also lead usher for over 15 years. Walter was a member of the Isaac Parker Masonic Lodge of Waltham. He was a drummer in the Waltham American Legion Marching Band. Walter loved to fish, was an avid fan of all the New England Sports teams and loved the mountains and streams of NH.

Members of the family include two daughters, Debra Donlon, Shirley Stapp & her husband Robert, his two sons, Walter Darby & his wife Karen and David Darby, nine grandchildren, Jessica, Monika, Nicholas, Jillian, Kevin, Jacob, Lilliannah, Melinda and Timmothy, two great grandchildren, Kyleigh and Isabella and also his sister, Janet Mullet. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Shirley M. (Dunsford) Darby in 2013.

After cremation a visitation was held Saturday March 17, 2018 from 2 to 3pm at the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Road, Londonderry. A memorial service followed at 3:00pm in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the NH Alzheimer’s Association, 166 S River Rd #210, Bedford, NH 03110 or Home, Health and Hospice 7 Executive Park Drive, Merrimack, NH 03054.
