Athanasios D. Tsourides 78

Athanasios Dionysios Tsourides, 78, of Shrewsbury,MA, passed at his home surrounded by his family on March 11, 2018. Original born in Kifissia Greece, he immigrated with his family in 1954 and settled in the Worcester area.

Athanasios is survived by his loving wife Agnes of 53 years, his sons Dionysios and his wife Catherine of Plymouth MA, Haralambos and his wife Karen of Dover MA, Chris Tsourides and Michelle Cochran of Frisco TX, as well as Holly Tsourides of Frisco, TX. His sister in laws Chrisoula Vlahos of Dedham and Aliki Tsourides of Worcester. In addition he also leaves his loving grandchildren Brady, Lena, Alexandra, Ansana, Foxx, Natalia and Athanasios, along with many loving nieces, nephews and extended family. Athanasios was a loving father, husband, grandfather and friend to all.

He was preceded in death by parents Dionysios and Theoni Tsourides and his brother Paul Tsourides.

Athan loved sports and coached the St. Spyridon’s Boys Basketball team to numerous league championship at both the Central and Greendale YMCAs of Worcester, as well as the championship at the Hellenic College summer league tournament in Brookline. In addition, Athanasios was the inaugural coach of the Shrewsbury Minutemen, the very first organized youth soccer team in the town of Shrewsbury. Athanasios was a graduate of WorcesterJunior College and WPI with a degree in Design Drafting and worked his entire career at Riley Power Inc. of Worcester as the Design Graphics Manager.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, March 15, 2018 from 4-7 p.m. in Nordgren Funeral Home 300 Lincoln St. Worcester. A Trisagion service will be held at 5:00 p.m. during the calling hours. A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 16, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery. A special thank you to the VNA Hospice at Home and especially his nurses Vanessa and Giselle for their loving care and support.
