Obituary

Edith Williamson James, 71, of Rochelle, Georgia, died Tuesday, March 6, 2018, at Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton, Georgia.

Graveside services will be held 4 PM, Friday, March 9, 2018, at Salem Cemetery, in Ben Hill County, Georgia, with the Rev. Bill Tracy officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday evening, from 6 PM until 8 PM, at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.

Mrs. James was born April 21, 1946, in Fitzgerald, Georgia, to the late Wright Pinkney Williamson & Elon Gibbs Williamson. She lived in the community all of her life and attended Lynwood School. Mrs. James was a clerk for Allied Department store, a homemaker and she also worked alongside her husband at his auto shop. She enjoyed fishing and collecting frog figurines. Mrs. James made the best of every situation and will be remembered for her infectious laugh. She was a member of Salem Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband of 36 years, W. L. James of Rochelle; three children: Ange Brown of Abbeville, Melissa & Gary Gayton of Fitzgerald and Greg & Christine James of Fitzgerald; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; four sisters: Marcia W. Parks of Rochelle, Judy W. Hannah of Rochelle and Linda W. Carver & Needam of Moultrie; and five sisters-in-law: Frances Gibbs of Fitzgerald, Betty James of Fitzgerald, Lillian Cleghorn of Apopka, Florida, JoAnn White of Fitzgerald and Willie Eve Williamson of Cordele. Several nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.
