Obituary

Dorothy “Dotty” (Waye) Dexter, age 88, of Winchester, passed away on March 4th after a brief illness. She was the beloved wife for over 35 years of Richard Dexter, until his passing in 1987.

Born in St. Charles, MO, she was the daughter of the late William and Irma (Willbrand) Waye.
Dotty was raised and educated in MO, and obtained her B.S. degree in English from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL.

A resident of Winchester for over 65 years, she was very active in various volunteer activities in town, including the Parish of the Epiphany and its outreach work, the En Ka Society, the Winton Club, Meals on Wheels, Girl Scouts, and the Appalachian Mountain Club. She also tutored English as a Second Language.

In her spare time, she enjoyed spending time with friends and her large, boisterous family at the beloved family cottage on Moose Pond in Maine, cooking soups, cookies and anything with blueberries for them.

Physically active all year round, she enjoyed hiking, walking, skiing, swimming, tennis and golf, as well as reading and playing bridge. She also traveled extensively to many countries on all seven continents.

Dotty is survived by her children: Ann Dexter of Belmont, Bill Dexter and his wife Cindy of Portland, ME, and Elizabeth Stockwood and her husband Rick of Winchester. She was the dear sister of the late Irma Waye and is also survived by 8 grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a Memorial Service in the Parish of the Epiphany, 70 Church St., Winchester, on Saturday, March 10, at 3PM. Burial is private. In lieu of flowers donations in Dotty’s memory may be made to the En Ka Society, 1037 Main St., Winchester, MA 01890 or at www.enkasociety.org .
