New Bedford—Maria de Conceiçåo Andrade Costa, 97, passed away on Friday, March 2, 2018, at St. Luke’s Hospital. She was the wife of the late Jose Sousa Costa.
Born in Bretanha, Såo Miguel, Azores, she lived in New Bedford since 1960, and was a devout communicant of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church for 58 years. She worked as a seamstress until her retirement, after which she devoted her time to cooking and caring for her family, reading and prayer.
She is survived by her 5 children: Joseph D. Costa and Maria F. Martins of New Bedford; John Costa of North Dartmouth, Liliana Costa of North Kingstown, RI; and Clotilde Torres of Achadinha, Såo Miguel. Other survivors include: 8 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Rosa Correia, Maria dos Anjos Melo, Manuel Andrade, Henrique Andrade, Augusto Andrade, Jose Andrade, and Gloria Andrade.
Her funeral will be held on Wednesday at 8:00 A.M. from the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St., New Bedford, followed by a Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church at 9:00 A.M. Burial will follow at St. John’s Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m.
