Obituary

Vincent P. McLaughlin, a resident of Medford for over 39 years and formerly of Charlestown and Somerville, entered into eternal life on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at Bear Hill Nursing Center in Stoneham. He was 94 years of age.

Vincent was born in Boston on February 2, 1924, a son of the late James McLaughlin and Catherine (McLaughlin) McLaughlin. He grew up in Charlestown where he was educated in the Boston Public School system and graduated from Mechanic Arts High School in Boston in 1942. Vincent enlisted into the United States Navy on November 26, 1942 and served his country with courage and honor during World War II. He was honorably discharged on January 11, 1946 with the rank of Gunner's Mate Third Class. Vincent worked as a Letter Carrier for the United States Postal Service and retired on January 3, 1986 following 22 years of dedicated service. He was a member of the Old Charlestown Schoolboys Association. He was an avid Boston sports fan but most important to Vincent in his life was his family and the many quality times he was able to spend with each one of them.

Vincent is the beloved husband of the late Marjorie A. (Moriarty) Goodwin-McLaughlin and Catherine (Sheridan) McLaughlin. He is the devoted father of retired Somerville Fire Department Lieutenant Vincent P. McLaughlin and his wife Patricia of Reading, Patricia Lucherini and her husband Joseph of Hampton, New Hampshire, Joseph McLaughlin and his companion Lisa Morgan and his late wife Caroline of Medford, Brian Goodwin and his wife Gail of Salem, Brenda Aubrey and her husband John of Nashua, New Hampshire and Barry Goodwin and his wife Susan of Melrose. He is the loving Grandpa to 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He is the beloved brother of Elizabeth Bell, Veronica Smith, Pauline McLaughlin and the late Mary Hurley, Marjorie Coleman, Catherine McLaughlin, Virginia Powers, Rita Biggins, Rose O'Leary, Thomas McLaughlin, William S. McLaughlin, Robert McLaughlin, James McLaughlin, Cornelius McLaughlin and Michael McLaughlin. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Vincent's Funeral on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at 9 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, 55 Warren St. Charlestown at 10 A.M. His burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden. His visiting hours will be on Monday, March 5, 2018 from 4 to 8 P.M. in the funeral home.
