Obituary

Amy M. (Strickland) LaValley, 86, of Mystic, wife of the late John H. LaValley died February 28 at Westerly Health Center.

Born in Mystic, CT at home, she is the daughter of the late William and Florence (Oakes) Strickland of Mystic. She attended the Groton School System and graduated from Fitch High School in 1950.

Amy worked for the Stonington School System for many years and during that time she also made draperies for Noyes Dry Goods while they were open.

Amy enjoyed knitting, crocheting and sewing. Amy was active in the Little League Auxiliary and was a Den Mother for the Boy Scouts.

Amy has researched her genealogy and found that on her father's side of the family she is related to Walter Avery Buddington and Samual Hill who fought at the Battle of Groton Heights during the Revolutionary War.

She is survived by her sons William of Mystic, Robert and his wife Gina of Ashaway RI and David and his wife Tina of Pawcatuck, her seven grandchildren, Michael and his wife Heather of Eliot ME, Brenda Kinkade and her husband Erick of South Berwick ME, Tyler and Jessie of Ashaway RI, Jennifer, Gwendolyn and Owen of Pawcatuck, as well as three great grandchildren, Kash of Eliot ME, Samantha and James Storey of South Berwick ME. She is also survived by her brother, Joseph Strickland of South Carolina and his children and grandchildren.

Amy is predeceased by her sister Gloria Ann Strickland and her longtime companion, Larry Hale.

Her family will greet relatives and friends on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 from 9 to 11am at the Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Mystic immediately followed by a funeral service at 11:00am at the funeral home. Services will conclude with burial in Elm Grove Cemetery, Mystic.
