Obituary

Lucille “Cille” Flanagan of Groton, CT, formerly of Ormond Beach, FL and White Plains, NY, passed away at home Tuesday February 27th, 2018, survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Edward J. Flanagan.
Cille was a loving and selfless wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and great grandmother who would do anything for her family. However, that same sense of fairness, compassion and generosity she showed her family was extended to everyone she met, and she was therefore adored by all.
Born in Birmingham, AL on December 21st, 1924, she was the daughter of the late James and Edna McMillian. A graduate of the University of Alabama, she worked as a dietitian at the V.A. Hospital in Montgomery, AL before moving north, first to Detriot, then to New York where she worked at New York Hospital in Manhattan. Cille’s passion for art and architecture, combined with her pioneering spirit, inspired a career change to interior design. During her time as a student at Parson’s School of Design in New York she traveled through Europe for six months, discovering Florence Italy along the way, a place she fell in love with and would return to several times. She was also passionate about opera, early American architecture, The NY Yankees, Bama football and rarely missed a NYT crossword.
In addition to Edward, Cille is survived by her daughter Patricia; son Mark and his wife Diana; brother and sister-in-law James and Ann McMillian; grandchildren Sarah and her husband Fitch, Natalie and Julie; and great granddaughter Isla.
Cille’s family is grateful to the many caregivers who helped her through her journey with cancer, treating her with dignity and compassion. Donations in her memory can be made to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (https://www.bcrf.org/).
