Obituary

Mrs. Lee Dickey Koffman, beloved wife of Larry Koffman, entered into rest on Thursday, February 22, 2018.

A visitation will be held on Friday, March 2 from 6:00-8:00 pm and a memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 3 at 2:00 pm, both at Platt’s Funeral Home in Evans.

Lee was a native of Knoxville, Tennessee, graduated from Bearden High School, earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and a Masters of Education from the University of Tennessee, and retired from the Columbia County school system as a special education teacher. Lee loved teaching and had a special knack for teaching students with learning disabilities to read, teaching a wide variety of ages (4-14) over her career.

Lee was a Girl Scout growing up and became a dedicated Girl Scout leader for Troop 22 in Evans for 10 years. Her positive impact on her scouts was expressed in their heartfelt condolences. When her daughters attended UGA, many of their friends felt that Lee was like a second mother by hosting tailgates on Georgia gamedays, even though she was a Vols fan. She deeply touched everyone who entered her life and treated all like family. She valued family more than anything as shown by her hospitality at holidays, celebrating every holiday with her brother, and constant outreach to her extended family.

In addition to her husband, Larry, she is survived by her daughters; Carolyn Stone (Charles) and Kathryn Laughlin (Scott), her brother; David Dickey (Connie), her grandchildren; Carter and Cason, and her nieces, Ellie, Amy and Emily.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Columbia County Choral Society by mail at PO Box 1633, Evans, Ga., 30809 or online by the Donate button on their Facebook page.
