Obituary

Yawnick, David Arnold of Waltham, MA on Friday, February 23rd, 2018. Beloved husband of Kari Spriggs. Devoted father of Roberta Morrison of Tewksbury, Steven Yawnick and wife Laura of FL, Lisa Swain of Peabody and Michael J. Yawnick and wife Jacqueline of Wakefield. Step-father of Damian Spriggs of New York and Daher Spriggs of Lexington. Loving son of the late Solomon Yawnick and Gussie (Miller) Yawnick. Dear brother of Irving Yawnick and partner Sherri Wendell Halstead of Georgia. Loving grandfather of 11 and dear great-grandfather of 4. Also survived by his faithful dog “Dusty”.

David honorably served in the USAF during the Korean War working as a Crew Chief on the B-36, from 1953-1957, achieving rank of E-5.

After his military service, he worked as a Photographer. He was a Professor and Chair of the Photography Department at the Art Institute of Boston. In 1977 he purchased Alberts Photo Studio in Waltham, a business that has been in the community since 1946, and worked with his wife until 2017.

He served as Commander of the American Legion, Post 156, in Waltham where he was instrumental in achieving 10 Al White Awards for community service. He is a member of the DAV in Waltham.

David also serves on numerous committees that served Veterans in Waltham with his philanthropy.

Services to be held at the Torf Funeral Chapel, 151 Washington Avenue, Cary Sq, Chelsea, MA on Tuesday, February 27th, 2018 at 10AM. Relatives and friends invited to attend. Interment in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA. In lieu of flowers David’s family has requested to have a tree planted in his memory in Israel through the Jewish National Fund.
