Obituary

Franklin D. Sumner, 81, of Irwin County, Georgia, died Thursday, February 22, 2018, at Navicent Health in Macon, Georgia.

Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Sunday, February 25, 2018, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel, in Fitzgerald, with the Rev. Ike Thomas and the Rev. Earl Perry officiating. Interment will follow in the Snow Ridge Cemetery, in Turner County, Georgia. The family will receive friends Saturday evening, from 6 PM until 8 PM, at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.

Mr. Sumner was born December 26, 1936, in Turner County, Georgia, to the late Daniel Thelma & Annie Lois Kelly Sumner. He lived in the community all of his life and was a truck driver for Harper Motor Line & Brown Transport. He enjoyed family gatherings, fishing and fish fry’s. Mr. Sumner was a member of Dorminy Mill Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Ritia Sumner of Irwin County; two brothers: Ralph & Patsy Sumner and Walt & Janice Sumner, all of Fitzgerald, and a sister, Laverne & Horace Pritchett of Macon. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Jo Cook Sumner; four brothers: Bobby Sumner, Kelly Sumner, Ray Sumner and Wendell Sumner and five sisters: Frances S. Fussell, Elizabeth S. Hall, Mary Ruth S. Walker, Romelle Sumner and Jeanette S. Richartz.
