Obituary

Robert J. “Bob” Souza, Sr. age 82, of Brockton died February 21, 2018 surrounded by his family at Good Samaritan Medical Center after a period of failing health. Bob was the devoted husband of Virginia “Ginny” (Ulrich) Souza for 56 years. Bob was born and raised in Assonet the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Pimental) Souza. He was a 1953 graduate of Durfee High School in Fall River and served in the US Air Force during the Vietnam era.

He lived in Brockton for over 50 years. For many years Bob had been a computer operator for Blue Cross Blue Shield and retired in 1988. In his retirement he worked for Chadwick’s of Boston, Child World and Manpower. Bob loved to travel and had visited 49 US states and 34 countries. He also enjoyed golf, woodworking and his model car collection. He was very giving of his time and had been a volunteer at My Brother’s Keeper and helped prepare meals for the homeless with Our Lady of Lourdes Church.

Bob will be remembered as a selfless and compassionate man who would do anything for anyone in need. He also had an infectious laugh.

In addition to his wife Ginny, Bob is survived by his children Joanne Cardin and her husband Paul of Canton, Donna Andrews of Taunton, Cheryl Froio and her husband John of Tewksbury and Robert J. Souza, Jr. and his wife Mary Ann of Carver. He was the loving grandfather of Gregory, Sarah, John, Cassandra, Andrew, Conner, Hunter and Stephen and great grandfather of Jack and Drew. Bob was the brother of Francis Souza of Taunton, Libania Souza and Agnes Massey both of Mission Viejo, CA, Barbara Holtz of Sacramento, CA and the late Evelyn Moura, Anna Souza, Joseph Souza, Sister Florita Souza and John Souza.

Visiting hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont St. (rte. 123) Brockton on Sunday February 25, 2018 2-5pm. The procession will gather at the funeral home on Monday at 9:30am for a funeral Mass in Our Lady of Lourdes Church at 10:30am. Burial in the Mass National Cemetery, Bourne at 12:45pm.
