Obituary

James E. Martin, age 84, of Weymouth passed away peacefully on February 14, 2018. Jim was born, raised, and educated in Medford, MA. He attended Tufts University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in English and joined ROTC which led to a five-year Navy career as a lieutenant. He married his beloved wife, Nancy, in 1959, and they were stationed together in Japan for four years before settling in Weymouth to start a family. Jim worked for many years at John Wiley and Sons Publishing Company in Boston and later in life at the Thayer Public Library in Braintree. He was an insatiable reader and considered William Shakespeare to be one of his best friends. Jim also loved the Red Sox, the Patriots, and spending time with his friends at the Weymouth Club. He was a tennis player, a ping pong player, and he ran the Boston Marathon in 1975.

Jim was predeceased by his beloved wife Nancy A. Martin (Mahoney). He is survived by his loving children Michael J. Martin of San Francisco, CA, John W. Martin and his wife Kristin of Walnut Creek, CA, Jennifer L. Martin of Abington, and Mary Beth Kerrigan and her husband David of Sudbury, and his cherished grandchildren Nicole, Daniel, and Dylan. Jim is also survived by his devoted sister Jean Gillis of Manomet.
