New Bedford – Auzenda S. (Sousa) Alberto, age 94 of New Bedford, passed away on Sunday, February 18, 2018 at St. Luke’s Hospital. She was the beloved wife of the late Manuel Rodrigues Alberto and the daughter of the late Maria Isabel (Sousa) and Leonel Sousa.
Auzenda was born in Horta Faial, Azores, and immigrated to this country 58 years ago, a resident of New Bedford, she was employed as a presser in several garment factories including Dartmouth and Cape Cod Clothing. Auzenda was devoted to her family and a good friend to many. What people most remember about her is her happy smile, which she had for everyone, even when she was very sick. She enjoyed Cooking, sewing and spending time with her family, especially her two great grandchildren, Francisco and Isabel.
Auzenda is survived by her daughter, Maria Fatima Soares and her husband Sergio of Burlington, Ma., proud grandmother of Melanie Schumann and her husband Doug of Woburn, and Rodney Soares of Burlington, beloved great grandmother of Francisco and Isabel Schumann: her sister Fernanda Silva and several nephews, nieces and cousins, Auzenda was predeceased by 3 siblings: Leonel Sousa of Faial, Edwino Sousa of Canada and Maria Isabel Garcia of New Bedford.
Relatives and friends are invited to Auzendas’ visiting hours on Thursday morning February 22, 2018 from 9:30 – 11:30 A.M at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 12:00 P.M. Burial will take place in Rural Cemetery.
