New Bedford – Jose Cardoso Gil, age 77 of New Bedford, passed away on Sunday, February 11, 2018 at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Lucia (Silva) Gil and the son of the late Maria (Maranhao) and Jose Pereira Gil.
Jose was born in Terceira, Azores and served in the military in Portugal. He was an extremely hard worker all of his life. He loved being outdoors all the time and was a very talented gardener. He was a huge soccer fan and loved watching his favorite team Sporting play. Jose especially adored fishing with his daughter and great-grandson. He was always there to lend a hand and there was nothing he did not know how to do. He was a great influence and supporter in his granddaughter’s life. He was the best man, husband, father and grandfather anyone could ever have. He will be missed immensely.
He is survived by his wife, Lucia; daughter, Ana (Gil) Levesque; granddaughter, Carissa Levesque; great-grandson, Shayne Dextradeur; son-in-law, Freddy Branquinho; siblings, John Gil, Gabriela Silva, Cecelia DaCosta, Fatima Fernandes and Linda Foley; as well as, several godchildren, nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations can kindly be made to the family in memory of Jose.
Jose’s visiting hours will be on Monday February 26, 2018 from 5-8 P.M.at Perry Funeral Home with a service to take place during the visiting hours.
