Obituary


Richard L. March (Dick), 78 of Carver, sadly passed away unexpectedly on February 6th.

Born in Framingham, MA in 1939, son of the late Ambrose J. March & Evelyn M. March (Cammett). Richard was the beloved grandson of Arthur Cammett. Richard spoke often of his grandfather, really enjoyed spending so much time growing up on his grandfather’s farm in Amesbury.

His education started at St. Mark’s in Dorchester, and attended Norfolk County Agricultural graduating in 1957. He went on to receive his electrician certificate from Franklin Institute in Boston.

Richard enlisted in the United States Airforce in 1959 - E-4 engineering unit. He was stationed in Dover Delaware during the Cuban Missile Crisis, and then was transferred to Greenland where he was based. Proud to have served and honored to be a Veteran of the United States of America Airforce, Richard was discharged in 1963.

Started working at the Mass Hospital School in Canton, where he met Linda and their journey began. Richard spent 22 great years working at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Brockton as an electrician.

Richard was the beloved husband and best friend of the late Linda A. (Gilbert) March, married on March 16, 1968.

He leaves behind two loving sisters, Judi March of Stoughton & Maureen March & her partner & special friend to Richard, Larry Vigue of New Hampshire, also two brothers Gerard March of Florida & Robert March. Richard also leaves behind two sons that will forever miss their loving father, Joseph G. March & wife Heather of Pembroke & Jason R March & special partner Meghan Masten & Meghan’s 3 children Kiernan, Connor & Lily of Halifax. Richard will be greatly missed by his two grandchildren that meant so much to him they both gave him so much joy, Haley March of Pembroke & RiverLynn March of Halifax. He will be lovingly remembered by several cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family & dear friends.

He truly loved life, his family and the many he met along his way. He was a true gentleman, honest, caring, hardworking, down to earth a kind-hearted man, and would always lend a helping hand with a smile. If you needed him he was there.

He loved being involved in anything. He was pack leader for the Cub Scouts when his sons were young, Little League coach and was an attentive father who was always a constant presence in both his son’s life.

He loved making people laugh always joking, enjoyed dressing up for Halloween, spending time with family at parties Couples Club, dancing, singing, reminiscing. He enjoyed working around his home especially in his yard. He could fix anything that needed to be fixed. He loved to keep busy. He even decided to become a beekeeper and enjoyed that very much, especially because Jay was by his side as they did this together.

He and Linda decided to fulfill their dream and purchased a RV. They spent a lot of time camping, traveling sightseeing and had many great times both alone and with family & friends.

He loved his beloved boxers Julie, Bruno & Maggie they brought so much happiness into his life. After Linda passed away they gave him something to look forward to and he appreciated their companionship as he Bruno & Maggie started a new chapter.

He met many great people where he lived @ South meadow Village. Enjoyed all his neighbors and made some very special friendships that brought him much happiness.

For all that knew him, knew how much he adored Haley. He was such a proud Grampa, from the moment she was born. Haley became there everything. After Linda passed Dick and Haley continued making memories. There bond was truly quite special. He was her #1 fan and never missed an event big or small. Once Haley started playing basketball that became his favorite hobby he would travel with us to every game local or faraway, you could always find Dick wearing his Pembroke basketball shirt “GRAMPA” engraved on the sleeve, walking proudly into a gym carrying his bleacher chair bumping into each person with that chair, as he climbed to the very top bleacher to sit and enjoy every game with the many cherished friends he made through the basketball community.

His funeral services will be held on Wednesday February 21 at 12:00 PM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth St (Rte. 58 at the rotary circle) Whitman. Visiting hours will be held prior to his service from 10:0 0AM-1200 PM. Burial will follow in the Central Cemetery, Halifax.

Memorial donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project of Massachusetts.
