Obituary


William J. McGinley, born in Cambridge, MA, on March 22, 1923, formerly of Wilmington Massachusetts and Jacksonville, Florida, died peacefully on February 4, 2018 in Greenville, SC.

He is survived by his six loving children and their families, daughters; Janice McGinley, Kathleen McFadden and her husband Mike, Lisa McGinley, and Patricia McGinley; and sons; William J McGinley, Jr. and his wife Susan, and Steven McGinley; as well as 7 step-children. He had an especially close relationship with step-daughter, Cindy Laquidara of Jacksonville, and her son SGT. Joseph P. Kenney, and Jackie and Donna Laquidara of Wilmington.

He was predeceased by his wife Helen T. (Laquidara) McGinley, and former spouse Rosemary E. McGinley. He is also predeceased by brothers, James, Frank, Joseph, Lawrence, Charles, Vincent, and Paul, and sisters, Bernadette, Therese, and Elizabeth. He is also survived by his brother, Bernard of Mississippi.

Bill was a career military man, a proud veteran who served during WWII, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. While his military service and love of country was evident, so was his desire for peace and a conflict free world. He was a man of deep faith and prayed daily, “May warring nations find peace through verbal negotiation”.

A Celebration of Life Mass and Christian burial will be held on what would have been his 95th birthday, Thursday, March 22, 2018 at St. Thomas of Villanova, 126 Middlesex Ave in Wilmington, MA, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Services will conclude with Military Honors and burial at Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington. In lieu of flowers the family asks that contributions may be made in Bill’s memory to the Windsor House of Greenville, 1931 Pelham Rd, Greenville, SC 29615. Arrangements entrusted to the Dello Russo Family Funeral Service of Wilmington.
