TEWKSBURY: Richard P. Withrow, age 78, a resident of Tewksbury for the past 12 years, passed away at home on Tuesday, February 6, 2018 in the care of his family and VNA of Middlesex-East Hospice.

He was the beloved husband of Carole (Reardon) Withrow, with whom he would have celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary on February 11, 2018.

Born in Arlington on February 22, 1939, he was the son of the late Winston E. “George” Withrow and the late Gertrude (Boudreau) Withrow.

Richard was raised in Medford, and attended Medford schools.

In 1962, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the 54th Infantry. Richard was honorably discharged from active duty on March 31, 1964, having attained the rank of SP-4.

He resided in Winthrop for 36 years, where he and his wife Carole raised their five children.

Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a Corrections Officer at the Deer Island House of Correction.

He was a member of the Winthrop Elks, American Legion, and the Tewksbury Golden Age Club & Senior Drop-in-Center, where he enjoyed playing pool and socializing with friends.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his five children, Jeanine M. Tamboli of Tewksbury, Gary J. Withrow and his wife Marie-Elena of South Carolina, Richard P. Withrow, Jr. and his wife Karen, Robert J. Withrow and his wife Jeannine, and Jennifer M. Withrow all of Winthrop; five grandchildren, Christina M. Tamboli, James P. Withrow, Billy L. Tamboli, Angela M. Withrow, and Sophia H. Withrow; sisters, Patricia Parsons and her husband Bruce of Wakefield, Judith Smalley of Hampton, NH; also many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and close family friends, Michael Moore and Joe Candelino.

Richard was the father-in-law of the late John Tamboli of Tewksbury and brother of the late Carol Hakala of Oregon.

Calling hours are Monday, Feb. 12, from 4-8 p.m. at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. His funeral procession will begin on Tuesday, Feb. 13, at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by his Funeral Mass at 11:30 a.m. at St. William’s Church, 1351 Main St., Rte. 38, Tewksbury. Interment at St. Mary Cemetery, Tewksbury. At the request of the family, kindly Omit Flowers. Donations in his memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
