Obituary

With love in our hearts, we announce the passing of our mother Georgia Garcia. She passed away on Monday, January 29, 2018 in her home with her children at her side. Mrs. Georgia Garcia was 85 years old, native-born in Santa Paula, California and a life long resident of Ventura County.
Georgia was known for her gentle loving demeanor and her smile that could light up a room. Georgia attended schools in Santa Paula and graduated from Ventura High School. She excelled in academics and had a lifelong passion for reading. She was the president of the Latin Club. She balanced her academics with a love of sports. She played tennis and was the captain of the tennis team and Girls Athletic Association (GAA). She participated in the Ventura High School pep squad. She maintained close friendships with her Ventura High School classmates, having monthly luncheons to present day.
Georgia married her childhood sweetheart Refugio (Ray) Garcia Jr. The two celebrated 52 golden years, prior to his passing in 2005. Georgia's un failing love and devotion for their partnership, enabled them to achieve many goals for their family and community at large.
Georgia was a woman of great faith and devotion to our Lord. She made sure all her children had a strong spiritual foundation. Her greatest teaching came from her own unspoken daily example of living the Christian values of unconditional love, compassion, and forgiveness of others.
As the eldest of eleven siblings, she assumed many responsibilities including caring for her younger brothers and sisters. Georgia remained closely bonded to her siblings. She is preceded in death by parents: Macario and Guadalupe Hernandez; and siblings: Hignio Hernandez, Gaspar Hernandez, Elsie Perez, Leo Hernandez, and Frank Hernandez. She is survived by brothers and sisters: Carmen Sandoval, Gilbert Hernandez, Santos Hernandez, Mary Pollock, and Esteban Hernandez.
Georgia was a beautiful wife and mother. She had a pride and passion for her faith and family. She is survived by her eight children: Richard Garcia, Robert Garcia and wife Alicia, Cynthia Garcia-Doane, Monica Garcia, Dolores Garcia-Deer, Clarissa Sanchez, Diana Garcia Palomares and husband Chris, and Ernie Garcia; twelve grandchildren: Christina Haywood, Christopher Garcia, Gabriel Sanchez, Andrea Sanchez, Phillip Garcia, Michael Doane, Gerard Sanchez, Chris Carlos Palomares, Sophia Garcia, Elena Garcia, Michelle (Olivia) Garcia, Victoria Palomares; and fifteen great grandchildren.
Family and friends are invited to join in the celebration of Georgia's life on Sunday, February 11, 2018 in the JOSEPH P. REARDON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICE, 757 East Main Street, Ventura, with visiting hours from 2-5pm in the Funeral Home. A Most Holy Rosary will be recited at 3pm. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 12:30pm on Monday, February 12, 2018 in Sacred Heart Church, 10800 Henderson Road, Saticoy. Interment will follow at 2pm in Pierce Brothers Santa Paula Cemetery, 380 Cemetery Road, Santa Paula.
