Catherine L. (Cavanaugh) Griffin Quinn 92, of Bridgewater formerly of Brockton died Monday, January 29, 2018, peacefully surrounded by her family in the Life Care Center West Bridgewater. She was the wife of the late Robert E. Quinn and former wife of the late Clare A. Griffin. Catherine was born and raised in Brockton and was the daughter of the late John D. and Mary I. (Phillips) Cavanaugh. She was also a Brockton High School graduate.
Catherine was the last living of the three original Brockton Meter Maids that were appointed in 1970. Following retirement from the city she later went to work for Walmart and retired less than 10 years ago. She will be remembered as a lady with a mind of her own and whose determined and feisty nature propelled her to go skydiving at the young age of 80.
Catherine is survived by her son and his wife, Kevin and Donna (Peckham) Griffin of Attleboro and her daughter and her husband, Maureen (Griffin) and Scott Holmgren of W. Bridgewater; 7 grandchildren, Kristen, Mark, Paul and Gregory Griffin, Christopher Holmgren and his wife Lisa, Caryn Holmgren Barker and her husband Steven and Ryan Northrup; 7 great grandchildren, Jayson and Karen Jackson, Madison, Michael and James Griffin and Ellington and William Holmgren and Robert’s nieces and nephews and their spouses who held a special place in Catherine’s heart; William and Judith Quinn, James and Janis Quinn, Paul Quinn, Elizabeth and Joseph O’Sullivan, Elaine and John Iannarone, Katheryn and Bernard Kelley, 15 great and 17 great great nieces and nephews. Catherine was pre deceased by her son Colman J. Griffin and her siblings John D. Cavanaugh and Shirley (Cavanaugh) Libby.
Visitation will be in the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton Friday from 9-11am with a funeral home service immediately following. Burial will be in the family lot in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family wishes you to consider donations in her name to be made to the Ronald McDonald House, 229 Kent Street, Brookline, MA 02120 or to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children, 51 Blossom Street, Boston, MA 02114.
