Obituary

Stephanie B. Taylor died on January 27th from the complications of COPD at the age of 72. She leaves her husband James K. Taylor of Woburn, MA.

Born in New York City, the daughter of the late LeBaron Russell Barker, Jr. and Eileen Lange, she attended The Brearly School in New York City and graduated from the University of Texas with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, cum laude. She also attended several other colleges and universities studying English, law and medical technology.

Stephanie had a varied career including newspaper reporting and editing, book editing, para legal assistant, health industry claims adjusting, and certified nursing assistant. She also was in the Army. More recently, she was in retail sales until she retired in 2008.

Stephanie enjoyed travel, and for several years greatly enjoyed ball room dancing with her husband, including training at the Arthur Murray studio in Burlington, MA. As a child and adult she also greatly enjoyed spending time at properties around Halfway Pond in Plymouth, MA, properties developed by her grandfather LeBaron Russell Barker, a prominent cranberry grower in Plymouth, who also was the nephew of Elbridge Gerry Barker founder of E. G. Barker Lumber in Woburn, MA.

Although not wealthy, Stephanie had a good and giving heart, and there did not seem to be any worthwhile cause that she did not support. It seemed a donation from her was never more than a call, email, or letter away.

Stephanie was predeceased by her first husband Kenneth Ball and leaves one sister, Lindsay Mason of Newnan, GA, and three brothers, Jeffery Barker and his wife Marion Barker of Bethesda, MD, LeBaron Barker of Stratham, NH, and Randy Barker, of Ithaca, NY. She leaves numerous nephews and nieces, including the following close ones: Alexandra Barker and her husband Reid Freeman and children of Brooklyn, NY, the late Olivia Barker and her surviving husband Ben Court and son, of Bethlehem, PA, Pamela Shockey and her husband JD Shockey and children of Hamilton, VA, Jeffery Barker and his wife Elizabeth Barker of Chicago, IL, Ian Mason and his wife Aubern Mason and children of Newnan, GA. She also leaves numerous cousins, including the following close ones, Dorothy Price, her husband Leighton Price, and daughter Diana Price of Plymouth, MA, and Rick Bird of Medfield, MA.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend calling hours at the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Family Funeral Home, 60 Pleasant St., Woburn, MA, Saturday, February 3rd, from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. followed with a prayer service starting at 4:30 p.m. It has been requested that in lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Stephanie's memory to Habitat for Humanity International, 121 Habitat Street, Americus, GA 31709-3498 or the World Wildlife Fund, 1250 Twenty-Fourth Street, N.W.
