Obituary

William M. Carnes of Canton, retired Colonel USAR and Boston Public Schools educator, formerly of Charlestown, passed away January 23rd.
Survived by his bride of fifty-five years, Ann McCallion. Father of Mary R. Keable and her husband Michael of Oakland, RI, William M. Carnes and his wife Nancy of Hopkinton, Susan E. Carnes of Boston and John A. Carnes and his wife Angela of Burlington. Also survived by his grandchildren; Sean, Lauren and Matthew Carnes, Jacquelyn, Catherine and Michael Keable and Sarah and Kevin Carnes.
A double Eagle from Boston College, Bill donated much of his time to volunteer work including as Treasurer and Coach of Canton Youth Hockey, CCD Teacher and Eucharistic Minister at St. John the Evangelist Church and as past President of the Reserve Officers Association. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Canton Lions Club and Canton Senior Men’s Club, He also enjoyed entertaining his family and friends at the family summer home in Manomet. .
Visiting hours at the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home 455 Washington St. Canton Sunday 2-5 pm. Funeral Mass at St. John the Evangelist Church Canton Monday morning at 10:30. Burial Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton. In lieu of flowers, Donations may be made in his memory to the Paul W. Curran Scholarship Fund, c/o Milton Post American Legion, 114 Granite Ave Milton, MA 02186. Paul, his cousin, was killed in the line of duty.
