Obituary

Randall Shiver, 82, of Tifton passed away Wednesday, January 17, 2018, at Legacy Village in Tifton. His funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, January 20, 2018, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. Ben Reeves officiating. Mr. Shiver will be laid to rest at Damascus United Methodist Church Cemetery in Ty Ty. The family will receive friends Saturday, January 20, 2018, from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of the service in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.

Chris Shiver, Matthew Shiver, J. C. Shiver, Mitch Ogletree, Russ Ogletree and Barry Bankston will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Men’s Group at Damascus United Methodist Church, Carl Goodwin, Wendall Pearson, Burl Philmon, Fred Barnes and Michael Markham.

Born April 30, 1935 in Tifton, Mr. Shiver was the son of the late Omer Willard Shiver and Lucille Whiddon Goodwin Shiver. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Glass Shiver; and a sister, Cloe Anne Shiver. Mr. Shiver retired from the United States Navy in 1973 after over 20 years of service. He was a machinery repairman and served in the Korean War and served two tours in Vietnam to include being aboard the USS Turner Joy during the Tonkin Gulf incident. After retirement, he worked with Pearson Construction Company for many years.

Mr. Shiver loved to laugh, socialize and to fish, especially with his grandchildren. He raised goats and later became interested in bees. At one time, he had a large number of bee hives and often answered requests from people to remove problem hives from buildings and trees. He wanted his interest in bees to be passed on to younger people and shared his knowledge whenever asked, to include speaking to his granddaughter’s class about bees and beekeeping.

Mr. Shiver is survived by one son, James Randall Shiver, Jr.; one daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Ben Towson; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Lehman Shiver and Don and Doris Shiver; grandchildren, Chris Shiver, Lindsey Towson, Hailey Shiver, Morgan Shiver and Katie Shiver; bonus grandchildren, Dustin McCook and Shaun McCook; great-grandchildren, Tori Shiver, Matthew Shiver, J. C. Shiver and Nina Shiver; and bonus great-grandchildren, Melody Shiver and Alex Descarreaux.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial gifts may be made to Damascus United Methodist Church, 1905 Whiddon Mill Road, Ty Ty, GA 31795.
