Obituary

McDONOUGH, Christopher M. "Chris" 59 of Portland, ME, died suddenly on Monday, January 8, 2018. Chris was born on September 19, 1958, in Boston, the son of the late Francis X. and Eleanor P. (Higgins) McDonough. Chris grew up on Moss Hill in Jamaica Plain, Boston, with his eight siblings. He attended local schools, including Boston Latin School, graduating in the Class of 1977. He graduated from Providence College with a degree in Business Accounting in 1981. As a teen, Chris worked as a caddy at The Country Club in Brookline and subsequently developed a passion for playing golf. Chris moved to Kennebunk, ME in 1992 and eventually settled in the Portland area. Chris' greatest joy in life was his sons, Matthew and Brian. He proudly followed their accomplishments and enjoyed watching them play sports while they were in high school. In his later years, Chris' interests turned to politics. He will be remembered as someone who enjoyed a good argument about the role of government and who felt a strong and abiding love for his country. He was predeceased by his sister, Marguerite McDonough. He is survived by his two sons, Matthew McDonough of Boston and Brian McDonough of Falmouth, ME; two sisters, Mary Ellen McDonough of Watertown, and Paula Tibert of Arnold, MD; five brothers, Francis McDonough and his wife Katherine of South Yarmouth, John McDonough of Kihei, HI, Charles McDonough of Jamaica Plain, Walter McDonough and his wife Eileen of West Roxbury, and Thomas McDonough and his wife Mary Lou of Dorchester; a close friend, Raven Thorsson of Portland; and many beloved nieces and nephews. Visiting Hours: A memorial service will be held on Sunday, February 11th at Robert J. Lawler & Crosby Funeral Home, 1803 Centre Street, WEST ROXBURY at 3:30 p.m. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. A donation may be made in Chris' name to the charity of your choice.
