Obituary

Nancy Elizabeth Quynn, 60, of Tifton passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 17, 2018, at her residence. Her funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, January 21, 2018, at Saint Anne’s Episcopal Church with the Rev. Lonnie Lacey officiating. Ms. Quynn will be laid to rest at a later date. The family will receive friends Saturday, January 20, 2018, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.

Born December 5, 1957 in Danville, Virginia, Ms. Quynn was the daughter of the late Russell Hoover Quynn, Jr. and Frances Gwendolyn Suitt Quynn. She was a 1976 graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School in Richmond, Virginia; a 1980 Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, Virginia; and a 1986 graduate of The University of Virginia School of Law. At one point in time, she worked as a paralegal at McGuire Woods in Richmond, Virginia.

Nancy has served the community of Tifton for many years as an immigration attorney. Additionally, Ms. Quynn was one of the initial co-founders of Southeast Georgia Communities Project in Lyons, GA, which is an advocacy organization that serves migrant and seasonal farmworkers and their families. Ms. Quynn was also the legal clinic attorney at the organization since its inception in 1995. Her work at SEGCP was a blessing and her service to the community, often was pro-bono. She will be greatly missed as a supporter, advocate, colleague and friend.

Nancy was an extremely passionate, loyal and very caring person. She was always a champion for the underdog and her colleagues felt it a privilege to work alongside of her.

Ms. Quynn is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Victoria and Michael Golen; one brother, Russell Quynn, III; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Patricia Quynn and Anne and Robert Ritko; one granddaughter, Laila Golen; a niece, Meredith Ritko; and a nephew, Michael Ritko. Nancy was also survived by numerous close friends, whom she loved dearly.
