Enriqueta Hernandez Barbosa, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2018. Enriqueta (better known as Queta by her family) was 89 years old.
Queta was born on July 15, 1928 in Mexico to Maria and Jesus Hernandez. She later traveled to the United States and married Richard Barbosa in Reno, Nevada on December 24, 1948. In 1951, they moved to Ventura, California with their three daughters where they made their home for the next 67 years.
Some of her greatest accomplishments included raising her seven children and entering the work force in 1968. She worked for Oxnard Frozen Foods for 25 years until her retirement in 1993. One of her proudest moments was becoming a United States citizen on September 25, 1996. Queta took pride in her citizenship, her voting responsibility, and she made sure to vote in each election.
She is preceded in death by her husband Richard, her parents, her siblings Maria, Antonio, Virginia, and Daughter- in-law Lynette Barbosa. She is survived by her children, Esther Lopez (Frank), Senaida Aguilera (Flavio), Hope Lara (Edmund), Richard Jr., Jesse (Dina), Frank, and Christina. She is survived by 14 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and one great-great- grandchild.
The family’s heart felt gratitude is extended to the Nurses and Certified Nurses Assistant of Victoria Care Center who took very special care of Queta during her illness until her death.
Family and friends are invited to a visiting hours on Monday, January 22, 2018 from 5-8:30 pm in JOSEPH P. REARDON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICE, 757 East Main Street, Ventura. A Most Holy Rosary will be recited at 7pm lead by Deacon Ernie Lara. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at 10:00 am in Old Mission Church San Buenaventura, 225 East Main Street, Ventura , followed immediately by interment at Santa Clara Cemetery, 2370 North H Street, Oxnard.
