Obituary

Evelyn Boggus Kennedy, 91, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Monday, January 15, 2018, at her daughter’s residence in Fitzgerald.

Funeral services will be held 4 PM, Friday, January 19, 2018, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald, with the Rev. Dr. Lloyd Stembridge officiating. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Friday.

Mrs. Kennedy was born April 3, 1926, in Savannah, Georgia, to the late Argin A. & Avie Lee Adamson Boggus. She moved to Fitzgerald at the age of 10 and was a graduate of Fitzgerald High School. She received her nurse’s training in New Orleans at Southern Baptist. She and her husband moved to Cochran after she completed her education and she worked at the old Hawkinsville Hospital. In 1951, they returned to Fitzgerald where Mr. Kennedy began a career on the railroad. Mrs. Kennedy continued her nursing career at the old Ben Hill County Hospital and later Dorminy Medical Center, working as the Florence Nightingale to most everyone in the community for over 50 years in anesthesia in the operating room. She was a very active member of the Pilot Club who loved to read and travel. Along with her sisters, she traveled across the United States and most of Europe. She will be remembered by her family and friends for her gentle spirit, her kindness, and her grace. She was a member of Arbor Baptist Church and was very active in Sunday school.

She is survived by her daughter, Debbie Polhamus & Charlie of Fitzgerald; grandchildren: Diane Wynn Lyle & Lee of Richmond Hill, Dawn Wynn Fegel & Frank of Richmond Hill, Gabriel Jones & Olivia of Wasilla, Alaska, Abigail Jones of Canby, California, Toby Polhamus & Jeannie of Columbus; Marcee Polhamus Gray & Coley of Statham and Annie Polhamus Brown & Sebastian of Jacksonville, Florida; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Kennedy; two daughters: Dr. Donna Jean Kennedy-Jones and Karen Kennedy Wynn; two sisters; and four brothers.
