Obituary

John Latimer Tate, 78, of Tifton passed away Sunday, January 14, 2018, at his residence. His funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, January 18, 2018, at Tifton’s First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. C. Jarred Hammett, Jr. officiating. Mr. Tate will be laid to rest at Zion Hope Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday, January 18, 2018, from 2:00 p.m. until the hour of the service in the Fellowship Hall of Tifton’s First Presbyterian Church.

Tim Cooper, Breman Griner, Richard Golden, David Green, Clay Newton and Jimmy Jennings will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the staff of Ruby Tuesday’s in Tifton.

Born June 11, 1939 in Miami, Florida, Mr. Tate was the son of the late Roby Tate and Ana Rae Jennings Tate. He was an interior designer and arranged flowers for the Glory of God for the worship services at Tifton’s First Presbyterian Church, where he was a member. He received his undergraduate degree from Stetson University and his Masters in Interior Design from the University of Miami. He was an Airman First Class in the United States Air Force. John never met a stranger. He was loving and caring and he always put others' needs ahead of his own.

Among his survivors are his special cousins, including Betty Golden, Sylvia Green, Cornelia Towson and Jimmy Jennings; and many special friends, including Lois McKee.

Flowers will be welcomed or memorial gifts may be made to Tifton’s First Presbyterian Church, P. O. Box 304, Tifton, GA 31793.
