Obituary

Louis M. Tanguay, 85, of Gorham, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday January 14, 2018 at the Androscoggin Valley Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Gorham on April 7, 1932 the son of Arthur and Mary A. (Pelchat) Tanguay and lived most of his life there. He graduated from Gorham High School in 1950 and served with the US Navy for 4 years and then joined the Air Force in 1955, retiring in 1971. During his service, he had served overseas with the Mediterranean Fleet and Task Force 77 serving in Korea, Japan, Greenland and Thailand. His service medals include the National Defense with Star, Korean Service, Navy Occupation, United Nations service, Good Conduct with 2 Bronze Loops, Republic of Vietnam Combat, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, Presidential Unit Citation with Star, Air Force Good Conduct Medal with 2 Bronze Oak Leaves, the Air Force Longevity Service Award with 2 Bronze Oak Leaves, the Vietnam Service and the Air Force Missileman Badge. After that, Louis had been a mail carrier for the Gorham Post Office, retiring in 1994. He was also an EMT and Firefighter for the Gorham Fire Department, was a member of the American Legion, was an active member of Lamb’s Chapel and enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and skiing.

Family includes his children Paul Tanguay of Titusville, FL, Kristi Bassett and husband Scott of Sandown, NH, Louis Tanguay of Shelburne, NH, Tammy Sketchley and husband Mark of Jensen Beach, FL, Arthur Tanguay of S. Berwick, ME, Bonnie Jenis and husband Bill of Concord, NH and Tony Tanguay of Farmington, NH; grandchildren Amie, Jamie, Nicholas, Rachel, Nathan, Timothy, Zachary, Brian, Stephen, Lisa and Cori; great granddaughter Macy; siblings Arthur Tanguay, Irene Tieva, Dorothy Ferrante and Bea Wheeler; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife Carolyn M. (Brown) Tanguay, his daughter Lisa Tanguay, and siblings Richard, Maurice, Alphee and Wilfred.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, January 19, 2018 at 11am at the Bryant Funeral Home, 1 Promenade St., Gorham. Interment will follow in the Holy Family Cemetery.
