Obituary

George Costa, 90, of Westport, passed away Sunday, January 14, 2018 after courageously battling Parkinson's disease. He was the husband of Clementina (Bonagura) Costa.

Born in Westport, son of the late Joquim and Maria (Mendes) Costa, he was a lifelong resident of Westport. After attending local schools, he enlisted in the United States Air Force during WWII. While on duty as a radio operator in Rome, Italy, he met his loving wife and married her there. After his honorable discharge, he and Tina moved to Westport where they raised their four children. George continued his studies at the Boston Technical Institute and graduated with a degree in radio and television engineering. He worked as a radio DJ for local stations WSAR, WALE and WBSM and was employed for 19 years at WTEV 6 in New Bedford. Upon his retirement in 1974, he proudly opened Westport Camping Grounds which he owned and managed for over 35 years and is still in operation today. George also volunteered as a member of the Westport Finance Committee and the Board of Health. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and bowling.

Including his wife, survivors include 2 sons: Alan Costa of Ecuador and Martin Costa of Westport; 2 daughters: Madeleine Costa of Westport and Lucetta Pinault of Westport; 4 grandchildren: David Pinault, Michelle Emory, Jillian Branco and Verity Stanford; a great grandson: John Pineault; and a nephew: Wayne Costa.

He was brother of the late Frank V. Costa and Tony Costa.

Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be Friday, January 19, 2018 at the Potter Funeral Home at 10 AM.

Calling hours Thursday 5 - 8 PM.

Interment in Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport.
