BUXTON - Barbara A. Smith, age 79, passed away on January 11, 2018 at home with her family around her after a battle with Pancreatic cancer.
She was born in Queens, New York on April 14, 1938, daughter of the late Arvo and Helen (Wilson) Lainen.
She met and married Harry Smith, Jr. of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on July 19, 1958, while he served in the Air Force where he was a mechanic.
In 1969, they became part owners of the Noyac Marina along with her sister and brother-in-law Edward and Helen Jacobsen.
She moved to Maine with her daughter in 2004. She loved the little farm with her cats, dogs, horses and chickens. She loved animals. She enjoyed boating, fishing, clamming, swimming and everything else that came with living close to the water. Her greatest love was cooking. She loved to cook and bake and feed the neighborhood.
She is predeceased by her late husband Harry Smith, Jr. who passed away in 1991 and also predeceased by her son Jeffrey Smith, of Sag Harbor, NY, in 2010 and her brother Edward Lainen of New York.
Barbara is survived by her daughter, Karen Smith-Watkins, of Buxton, Maine and her significant other Thomas Pike; sister Helen Jacobsen of Commack, NY; two grandsons: Alexander Smith of Sag Harbor, NY and Zachary Smith of Buxton, Maine.
