LONDONDERRY, NH - Richard Stephen Bonifas, age 72, a devoted fraternal member of the Elks, died unexpectedly Friday, January 12, at the Eliot Hospital in Manchester, NH, after a brief illness.
He was born in Melrose in 1946, one of seven children of the late Robert C. and Martha (Kinney) Bonifas, and raised in Tewksbury. In his early years Richard worked with his father’s masonry contracting business. Later, he worked in a book bindery factory where he was disabled in a factory accident. He was a devoted member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks.
Richard leaves a son, Joshua and his wife Jessica (Haggerty) Bonifas of Salem, NH; a granddaughter, Sophia Bonifas; five siblings, Bonnie J. Munro of OR, Margaret L. Holmes of AZ, Sharon E. DiRusso of Italy, Isaac E. Bonifas of Phoenix, AZ, Sarah A. Brun of Bedford, NH; several nieces and nephews; and was predeceased by his brother, Terry R. Bonifas: and his former wife, Linda (Guptill)(Bonifas) Davis.
Relatives and friends will be received on Tuesday, JANUARY 23, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 Noon in the Tewksbury Funeral Home, corner of 1 Dewey and 975 Main Sts. (Rte. 38) TEWKSBURY CENTER, Ph. (800 in MA or 978) 851 2950. A Prayer service will follow at 12:00 Noon in the funeral home. Committal will follow in Tewksbury Cemetery.
