Obituary

WORCESTER/SPENCER: Lillian "Lilly" Prouty, 32, of Worcester and formerly of Spencer, died Wednesday, January 10, in St. Vincent Hospital, Worcester, from complications of an illness. She leaves the dearest love of her life, her son Eric Romanoff; her beloved sister, Laura Prouty, and her fiancée, Jackie Guntor of Worcester; her parents, Steve and Martine Prouty of Spencer; her partner, Alex Nieves of Worcester; and her faithful canine companion, Buddy.

Born in Sion, Switzerland, in the heart of the Alps, Lilly moved to Spencer when she was 18 months old. She was lively and inquisitive, active and artistic, and fiercely independent. She read voraciously, both in French and in English, and was expressive in her artwork and her writing, whether in prose or in verse, in either language. By age 8 she was writing poems and compositions in French that still amaze her family. At an exhibit of her artwork at the Java Hut, all of her paintings were bought by visitors.

She played recorder and flute. She enjoyed the music of Led Zeppelin and the Grateful Dead, and she loved to dance. She also liked skiing, running, swimming to the raft at her cousins' "camp" on Lake Lashaway, and, as a child, climbing trees like a squirrel. She had a great love of nature. One of her favorite places to spent time was Green Hill Park in Worcester, where she would meditate, walk her dog, and take photos of the trees.

She had a deep empathy for the less fortunate people in our society, and gave of herself to help others, counselling friends in distress with much tenderness.

Lilly was at her happiest when she was spending time with her son Eric. She was a loving and devoted mother who took much pride in his growth and accomplishments.

Lilly has left an indelible impression on her friends and aggrieved family. She will be severely missed.
