Obituary

John M. Cook, 81, of New Bedford died January 8, 2018 unexpectedly at home.
He was the husband of Barbara R. (Jones) Cook.
Born and raised in New Bedford, the son of the late Edward E. and Eleanor F. (Robinson) Cook, he lived in Falmouth before returning to New Bedford 10 years ago.
Mr. Cook was formerly employed by the Falmouth Grain Mill and the Woods Hole, Martha's Vineyard, and Nantucket Steamship Authority until retirement.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, raising Beagles and was a member of the Paskamansett Beagle Club. Mr. Cook was a member of many African Violet Societies and was the proprietor with his wife of Cape Cod Violetry.
He served in the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Peter Cook and his partner Jodi Edwards of East Falmouth; 2 daughters, Deborah Watts and her husband Brian of Wisconsin and Donna Guest and her partner Steven Lange of Georgia; a brother, James Cook and his wife Theresa of Dartmouth; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Edward Cook, Jr. and Madeline Sykes.
His Funeral Service will be held on Monday, January 15th at 1 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home For Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, January 14th from 3-8 PM. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to St. Jude's Childrens Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
