Obituary

ROY C. BROWNING, 91, of Louisville, Kentucky passed away peacefully on January 8, 2018 in Bonita Springs, Florida.
Roy was originally from Belfry, Kentucky, and the son of the late Richard and Florence (Runyon) Browning.
As a very young man, Roy began working by delivering groceries by horseback. He later joined the U.S. Navy and served on the USS Whitehurst in the South Pacific until the end of WW II.
Upon returning to Kentucky, Roy reunited with his bride-to-be, Emogene, whom he married in November 1947. He worked in the coal mines alongside several of his brothers. When the mines closed, Roy worked for the C&O Railroad Company. Soon after, he moved his small family to Louisville, Kentucky, where he worked many years for the Ford Motor Company until he retired from the Kentucky Truck Plant.
Roy loved hunting, fishing, camping and boating with family and friends throughout Kentucky, especially Rough River. He was a member of the Excelsior Lodge #258 F&AM and Scottish Rite. Roy was also a Kentucky Colonel and a member of the VFW Posts in Kentucky and Florida. He enjoyed Bonita Springs, Florida as his winter home for the past 32 years.
He was preceded in death in 2012 by his late wife of 65 years, Emogene Adkins Browning; and seven siblings, Louise Pinson (Luther), Charles Browning (Jessie), Annabelle Browning, Bertha Cochran (Marvin), Olive Parrigan (Willie), Richard Browning, Jr., and James Browning (Dorothy).
Roy is survived by his son Roy Clifford “Cliff” Browning, Jr. (Jan); niece-in-law, Janice Lynn Stanaland, whom he and Emogene helped raise; sister-in-law, Mary Browning; many nieces and nephews; many great nieces and nephews; and many great great nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their appreciation for the loving care Roy received at Beehive Homes of Goshen, Kentucky, and Joann’s House/Hope Hospice in Bonita Springs, Florida.
Visitation will be Sunday, January 14, 2018 from 12 – 3 p.m. with a funeral service at 3 p.m. at Owen Funeral Home, 5317 Dixie Highway, Louisville, Kentucky. Burial will take place at Mountain View Memory Gardens, Huddy, Kentucky on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at 1:00 p.m.
