Obituary

Eulalie Massee Woeltjen, 78, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Wednesday, January 10, 2018, at Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton, Georgia.

Memorial services will be at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, January 14, 2018, at Central United Methodist Church, Fitzgerald, Georgia, with the Rev. Jim McLendon, the Rev. B.J. Funk, and the Rev. Dr. Richard Wright officiating. The family will be receiving friends in the sanctuary from 2:00 p.m. until the service hour.

Mrs. Woeltjen was born April 27, 1939 in Ben Hill County to the late Marion Howard “Duke”, Jr. and Eulalie Dorminy Massee. She graduated from Fitzgerald High School and Georgia College and State University where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education. She lovingly taught many students in Thomasville and Fitzgerald for over thirty-five years both in music and first grade. She was an active member of her church, Central United Methodist Church, all of her life and was the Director of Central’s Chancel Choir for 10 years. She was named Fitzgerald-Ben Hill County Chamber of Commerce “Citizen of the Year” in 1995. Eulalie, representing her hometown, sang the National Anthem at Fitzgerald’s Night at the Braves game. She was an active member of the Nathaniel Abney Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Chapter 1138 of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. She loved her church, her family, her community and most importantly her God. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Her infectious personality and warm/loving smile will be remembered for the ages—as she touched the lives of so many in ways that will never be known.

Eulalie’s favorite prayer which she sang so beautifully is the Prayer of Saint Francis:

Lord make me an instrument of Thy Peace
Where there is hatred let me sow love
Where there is injury, pardon
Where there is doubt, faith
Where there is despair, hope
Where there is darkness, light
And where there is sadness, joy.
O divine Master grant that I may
Not so much seek to be consoled as to console
To be understood as to understand
To be loved as to love
For it is in giving that we receive
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned
And it’s in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Amen
