Michael J. Antonelli, of Malden, passed away on January 9, 2018, peacefully surrounded by his loving family. He was 90 years old.
Born on March 9, 1927 in Carpinone, Italy, Michael moved to Pittsburgh, PA with his family at the age of 10. After he married, he moved to Malden and settled in the Edgeworth area of Malden for over 50 years. He was an active parishioner and member of St. Peter’s Parish.
Michael was a longtime resident of Dexter House in Malden where he was cared for by an exceptional staff of nurses and aides. Over the years he had formed close bonds with many, but cherished those who had become his close friends that include Steve Murray, Linda Murphy, Dube Eugene, Jolena Barthelemy, Kerri Murphy and Denise King.
Michael was a member of the U.S. Army serving in the Korean War and received many medals of honor. He was also a member of the Malden American Legion Post #69.
Michael was the devoted husband of the late Licia M. (Altieri) Antonelli. He was the beloved father of Maria Doucette and her husband Kenneth of Medford, formerly of Malden. Michael was the son of the late Pasquale and Nancy Antonelli. He was the dear brother of Ernest Antonelli of Pittsburgh, PA and the late Flora, Ann, Carmella, and Rose. Michael was the brother in-law of Maria Tamasi of Italy and the late Clemente Altieri, formerly of Canada. He was the cherished grandfather of Joseph Doucette and his fiancé Rosanna LoGrasso of Reading and Michelle Doucette of Medford. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held from the A. J. Spadafora Funeral Home 865 Main Street, Malden on Saturday January 13th at 9:00am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Sacred Hearts Church, 297 Main Street, Malden at 10:00am. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held at the funeral home on Friday from 4-8pm. Entombment will be in Holy Cross Mausoleum, Malden.
