Roy C. Martin
Retired Research & Development Engineer

Roy C. Martin, 76, of Tewksbury, Massachusetts passed away at the Winchester Hospital after a long battle with illnesses. Raised in Peabody, MA, Roy graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1959 and attended courses at Merrimack College. Roy was a proud member of the U.S. Army National Guard and prided himself on the time he served, “in the Guards”. After his service, Roy was a dedicated Research and Development Engineer at the G.T.E. Sylvania Company and continued his employment through its merger to the Osram-Sylvania Company. Throughout his 39 year Engineering career, Roy held numerous patents, both nationally and internationally, for his inventions.

An avid sports enthusiast, Roy loved coaching Salem Little League Baseball and Bishop Fenwick High School JV Baseball and Basketball teams as well as cheer for his grandchildren’s sporting events. Roy loved the companionship of his dogs, playing golf and supporting his cherished New England Patriots. Roy’s most treasured times were those that he spent with his large family and group of friends.

Roy was the beloved husband of Elaine C. (Froio) to whom he was married for 52 years and a devoted father to Anthony and his wife Beth and Duane and his wife Jeanne all of Tewksbury. Roy is also survived by his loving grandchildren Amelia, Matthew, Juliana and Jayme and is further survived by his brother, Robert and his partner Marcia of Pompano Beach, FL. Roy is predeceased by his parents, Ellis and Virginia (Coffin) Martin and his brother Charles Martin.

Calling hours are Monday, Jan. 15, from 4-8 p.m. at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee Street, Tewksbury. His funeral procession will begin on Tuesday, Jan. 16, at 11:30 a.m at the funeral home, followed by his Funeral Mass at 12:30 p.m. at St. William’s Church, 1351 Main St., Rte. 38, Tewksbury. Interment at New Plains Cemetery, Windham, NH. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Donna Froio DeLena Memorial Scholarship Fund, 16 Forest Court, Malden, MA 02148.
