MICH, John William (Jack)
September 26, 1929 – January 5, 2018

John (Jack) Mich, 88, of Quincy, formerly of Weymouth, died peacefully Friday, January 5, 2018 surrounded by his family.

Devoted husband of 62 years of the late Barbara (Keany). He is survived by his sister Evelyn Denys of Las Vegas NV, and his six children; Barbara Mich Salvucci (Robert) of Bethesda, MD; John of Palm Springs, CA; James (Ellen) of Walpole, MA; Jeffrey (and the late Andy Hering) of Palm Springs, CA; Brenda Mich Smith (Michael) of Norwell, MA; and Joseph (Carolyn) of Walpole, MA, and eight grandchildren (Tyler, Jake and Nicole Mich; Dana Salvucci; Kristen and Peter Mich; Calvin and Jane Smith). He was predeceased by his parents Anthony and Margaret Mich of Dorchester, sister Marilyn Flynn and brother Tony Mich.

Jack graduated Boston Technical High School in Dorchester, then served his country in the Korean Conflict stationed in Japan. Upon his return, he began working for Boston Edison Co. where he spent his career in business development and real estate acquisitions. He raised his family on the South Shore in Braintree and Weymouth and drove the dreaded “expressway” every work day. Throughout his life he was active in many social organizations including the Braintree JayCees, Boy Scouts of America, Weymouth Elks, and Boston Edison Retirement Assoc. Upon retirement, he and Barbara enjoyed many years of leisurely travel with family and friends - cruises to the Panama Canal, winters in Palm Springs, trips to National Parks and Disneyworld, and holidays in San Francisco and Washington DC. He loved to spend free time with his "nose in a book" and working mind bending puzzles. He lived at Marina Bay, Quincy with a lovely view of the city and enjoyed an occasional Manhattan cocktail at the Port 305 restaurant with his children.

A celebration of Jack’s life will be held on Thursday, January 11, 2018 at the Port 305 restaurant, 305 Victory Rd, Marina Bay, Quincy from 4pm to 8pm. Detailed directions are available on the website eatdrinkminglegroup.com. Interment will be private and conducted with military honors.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Jack’s memory to the South Shore Visiting Nurses and Hospice Association southshorehealth.org/intermediate-gifts or South Shore Hospital, Attention: Foundation, 55 Fogg Rd, So Weymouth, MA 02190-2455.
