Obituary


Kenneth P. “Kenny” Hughes age 68 of Bridgewater died Friday January 5, 2018 surrounded by his family at the South Shore Hospital after a lengthy battle with cancer. He as the loving husband of the late Diana L. (Porter) Hughes. Kenny was born in Boston and raised in Holbrook a son of the late Francis and Lillian (Maguire) Hughes. He had resided in Bridgewater for the past 36 years.
A 1967 graduate of Holbrook High School, Kenny was senior project superintendent at Brophy Phillips Construction in Brockton. He had earned hoisting, construction supervisor, hazmat, and OSHA licenses. Kenny supervised all of Brophy’s largest and most important projects including the Liberty Mutual Airplane Hanger and many projects for Boston Scientific including their Airplane Hanger; Corporate Headquarters in Natick; and Primary production facility in New Jersey.
Kenny was with the company almost from the very beginning starting in 1974. As spoken by the company’s president, “Kenny demonstrated unwavering loyalty and dedication every day that was instrumental to the company’s success especially during the inevitable tough times that a construction company goes through. He was constant source of strength for the company which was deeply appreciated by all who worked with him.”
In his free time, Kenny enjoyed cars, NASCAR and the Patriots as well as photography, gardening and nature especially birds.
Kenny will be remembered as a hardworking, caring and giving man who always had a hug for a friend or family member. Family was a priority in his life and he cherished his time spent with them.
Kenny was the father of Scott Sherrick and his wife Robin of Bridgewater; Brad Sherrick of Braintree and Mark Sherrick and his wife Katie of Braintree. He was the grandfather of Stephanie, Samantha, Hailey, Hannah, Presley and Kennedy Sherrick. Kenney was also the brother of Ron C. Hughes and Tom J. Hughes and his companion Carmella DeBenedictus both of Holbrook and uncle of Lilly Ann and Giovanni Hughes.
Visitation will be held in the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont St. (rte. 123) Brockton on Tuesday 4-7pm. A Funeral Service will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday at 10am followed by burial in St. Thomas Aquinas Cemetery in Bridgewater. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Kenny’s name to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701.
